March MADNESS! Come Fill Out Your Bracket.
Here are the rules:
$20* gets you two (2) brackets (and opportunities) to correctly guess the winners of the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament. You must be 21 years of age to participate. Completed** Alewife Queens brackets are due, in-person, to Alewife Queens staff by 11:59pm EDT, Wednesday, March 14, to be eligible for the prizes.
If you watch*** the games at Alewife Queens on all four days of the first two rounds of the tournament (March 15, 16, 17, and 18, 2012), you will have the opportunity to choose which bracket (“1” or “2”) continues. Similar to our mug club, our staff will initial your brackets to indicate your presence at Alewife Queens during the basketball games. Upon the completion of games on Sunday, March 18, participants who meet the above requirements will have until Noon EDT on Thursday, March 22, 2012 to inform Alewife Queens of which bracket will enter in the pool. If we do not hear from you by Noon EDT on Thursday, March 22, your “1” bracket will be entered on your behalf.
You can contact us by e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org), phone (718.937.7494), or in person during business hours (Monday-Wednesday, 4:30pm-1am) to inform us of your selection. All other participants will have their “1” brackets entered into the pool.
The prizes will be distributed as follows:
1st place: 75% of the total pool
2nd place: 20% of the total pool
3rd place: 5% of the total pool
The total dollar amount will be announced by e-mail before games begin on Thursday, March 15. The winners will be announced at the conclusion of the Championship Game on Monday, April 2.
The winners will be determined by the total number of points scored. A correct pick in a given round is shown below:
Round 2: 1 point per pick
Round 3: 2 points per pick
Round 4: 4 points per pick
Round 5: 8 points per pick
Round 6: 16 points per pick
Championship: 32 points per pick
If there is a tie, the tiebreakers will be used in the following order:
1. The predicted Championship Game Tiebreaker Game Score is compared to the actual game score. The differences (absolute values only) between the predicted score and actual score for each team are added together into a combined total. The entry with the smallest total is considered the winner.
2. The predicted score for the winning team that is closest to the actual score of the winning team is considered the winner.
3. Number of points scored in the Championship Round
4. Number of points scored in Round 6
5. Number of points scored in Round 5
The Alewife Queens March Madness 2012 Leaderboard (Google doc) will be updated after the completion of each round of games.
Terms and Conditions
*$20 entry fee is cash-only. Participants will receive a receipt for the transaction.
**Completed brackets must include the following information: Participant’s First and Last Name, Participant’s E-mail Address, winners selected for all 65 games, and a final score for the Championship Game. Each bracket must also be clearly marked with a “1” or “2.”
***Watching is defined as a purchase of at least $7 (excluding tax) during business hours while the games are being played.
