Good Luck with your new bar. I consider myself a “good beer” drinker, and I have a variety of favorites. I’ve only heard of a few beers on your tap list. That doesn’t mean their not good ones, I’m sure most of them are. But, I think you need to have some tried and true popular taps mixed in with some of those cult favorites here to keep people drinking. I certainly don’t mean the likes of Bud, Coors, Miller, Heineken, Amstel, Corona, etc. Your tap list may scare some newcomers away, if they don’t see beers they know. You can’t always roll the dice and try a new beer each time. You may get a lot of people coming only one time?
Hi Mike.
Thanks for looking over the draught list. We understand that some (maybe many) of the beers we have assembled may be unfamiliar to a lot of customers. The scare factor is something we are aware of. That is why we spent a lot of time training our staff on the beer we pour. Many of them had never heard of the beers they are now serving but ask them how they feel about them now. The bartenders and servers are all about answering questions and offering suggestions.
We have had to travel the world to discover these amazing beers and part of our mission is to expose people to those beers but in their own back yard. We are not putting these beers on out of pretention or to intimidate, these beers are at Alewife because they are the best we have had and want to share.
And remember the ‘tried and true’ beers were, a one time, unfamiliar and strange names in the beer world. Beer drinkers had to step up to the bar and order something they didn’t know to discover how good it was.
We hope to see you in soon to discover what we have to offer.
As someone who is very into beer, I’d have to say I agree with Alewife and say this list is quite spectacular. If the bar staff are knowledgeable about what they are serving, then I think there is something for everyone on this list. If you go to a fancy restaurant, I’m sure that 8 our of 10 wines most people would have never seen, but that doesn’t stop someone from asking the wait-staff what it’s like. Cheers to you guys, I can’t wait to stop by there.

I’m looking forward to coming to your new bar.
killer list of beers!! some really rare ones not available in bottle shops. Do you fill outside growlers if I brought my own?
I guess I’m a “gooder” beer drinker than the previous poster as I’ve heard of or had pretty much every beer on your list. The list is solid and there’s no reason to take up a tap with a “tried and true” beer that I can get pretty much anywhere else. Keep doing it this way and you’ll be fine. You may lose a few along the way but you’ll gain more converts in the end. Can’t wait to come in later this week.
I have had at least a dozen of the taps on your list and they are great. I discovered them by sampling taps. Thats what the craft beer scene is all about , the many different styles and flavors to choose from. Keep it up and switch taps occasionally and the ” REAL BEER DRINKERS” will keep coming back , poster mack hit it dead on. Good luck guys.
Incredible list. Can’t wait to come sample.
I’ll be making a trip from Westchester, don’t change a thing. Mikkeller & De Ranke are you kidding me???
Good luck!
The De Ranke is listed as “priceless” on the menu. Literally. Easy from Grand Central. Take 7 train to Queens and get off first stop, Vernon-Jackson Blvd. Off subway 1 block south to 51st, make a right it’s one block down. Only problem is for the next few months the 7 is dodgy or nonexistent on wkends.
Would like to see some Alesmith (San Diego, CA) and Bell’s (Michigan) on tap! Hope to visit you soon!
if only bell’s distributed to NY…
Clicked on your BA ad on a whim and really wish I hadn’t since I won’t be in NY any time soon. Wow, certainly more than an impressive line-up. Some serious love for beer and attention to detail went into your selection and presentation (serving sizes). I wish you the best of luck and the next time I’m around I will be sure to stop by.
Cheers!
Hi Folks,
Heading over from Bristol, UK next Thursday, spoke to my good friend Jack who is a local and he told me about you. I am a huge fan of the US craft beer scene and your list is awesome. just a question, do you do a taster, for example a seven glass selection. But where the glass size won’t leave me “trolleyed”,
Regards
Sean
Looking forward to my first visit here tonight. Just had to ask though: No Captain Lawrence, the local brew? Not knocking what looks like a first-class draught list, but CL has a couple of winners too and you can’t beat them for local freshness.
In any case, see you at the bar 🙂 cheers
apologies, our draft list hasn’t been updated on this site. We always carry Captain Lawrence.

I’m a super heavy drinker….I generally whack down a 6 before noon…and I have to say. Your list is just what the doctor ordered. Keep up the good work and I’ll come on down and join ya in my joyful inebriation.
“I think you need to have some tried and true popular taps mixed in” Hopefully this guy only comes ONE time, tell him he can buy a Yuengling at the Bodega.
